Suspicion- The act of suspecting the existence of something ;esp. of something wrong, with little evidence or proof. [The American Heritage Dictionary]
O ye who believe! Avoid suspicion as much as possible for suspicion in some cases is a sin. [49;12-The Holy Quran]
It is a sad fact that suspicion is a contagious entity. It affects not only the mind of the accuser, but often will {eventually} infect the mind of the accused.
Suspicion elicits an atmosphere of distrust which in turn provokes anger and resentment. Feelings of anger and resentment are only natural for the falsely accused and indicted. They are natural because any baseless accusation is a direct assault upon the character and the personal integrity of the accused.
A suspicious mind and the resulting false accusation are also insidious forms of oppression because they place the accused in the precarious position of having to defend himself against someone who is so biased or paranoid that full exoneration is virtually impossible.
The accuser casts a dark cloud of suspicion over the accused that is difficult to eradicate; for even if the the accused is completely cleared, there are those who will will wonder if his exoneration was due to sheer cleverness, shrewdness, and manipulation on his part or by others on his behalf.
Groundless suspicion, especially by those with whom one has a close relationship, engenders a feeling of abandonment or a kind of psychic treachery. And it always indicates a lack of trust and confidence, and a fundamental lack of belief in the decency and honesty of another human being.
Slowly but surely, this lack of faith or suspicion of the motives and the integrity of the accused begin to erode the relationship; begin to gnaw away at its vitals like a cancer. Eventually, even the most innocent occurrence becomes fuel for even more absurd and outlandish suspicions and accusations.
Soon, the accused begins to resent these groundless and ridiculous assaults on his character. He begins to lash out against his accuser; he may even begin to develop and harbor suspicions of his own.
Unjustified suspicion is so vicious and so destructive because it damages, often permanently, those qualities which are the bedrock of any meaningful relationship -- the qualities of trust and respect. Without these, any relationship is {at best} completely devoid of anything beyond a mere facade, and {at worst} could lead to deep hatred and possibly even violence and bloodshed.
More importantly, unfounded suspicions of those with whom one shares intimate relations reveals a lack of faith in God to ensure that good comes to those that strive to do good.
One who lacks faith in God cannot have faith in anyone else. And one who lacks confidence in the Mercy and the Goodness of God will find it difficult to recognize these traits in others. Yet those who have a firm belief in the all encompassing Benevolence of God do not see darkness around every corner, nor do they comprehend plots and schemes within every cranny or crouched under every rock. The Faith in God is enough to ensure any individual that anything done in the dark will eventually come to light. And any treachery or deceit, although practiced behind the cover of bright smiles and effusive flattery, will one day be revealed. Last update : 18-09-2002 19:18
