Bride's hands with hennaBy Sadiqa Balolia

What is it that transforms an ordinary woman into a sparkling & matchless beauty to be looked upon by all with admiration and affection on her wedding day?

Universally, a bride is a symbol of beauty and purity -the one who is looked upon with much admiration and affection. A bride - any bride is the most beautiful woman on her wedding day. She is the cynosure of all eyes on her special day. Everyone desires to catch a glimpse of the bride on the day of her marriage ,though they may have seen her dozens of times before that. The bride may be dark-skinned, short & fat, one-eyed or one-legged, but the beauty of the bride on her wedding day is comparable to none.

And NO- it's not the expertly done bridal make-up or the rich & elaborate costumes & jewellery that transform an ordinary woman into a stunning & sparkling beauty. There'a particular & much deeper reason behind this which most of us are unaware of. The real reason is there are "5 Sunnahs found together" in a bride which help to bring out all her loveliness and splendour. They are:

1 .A bride has her entire body(satr) covered.
2. A bride is shy-her eyes are always downcast.
3. A bride talks in a gentle tone...she speaks with a low and soft voice.
4. A bride walks in a graceful manner- taking slow & steady steps
5. A bride has haya and modesty dwelling in her.
These 5 sunnahs combined together help to make the bride a very desirable woman , glowing with inner light & radiance. They help to transform her into magnificient & matchless beauty.

Though it has become increasingly common for a modern bride of today to display her satr & hair, she has little haya left , she is seated in a mixed gathering of men & women , she interacts with non-mehram males and  has her photographs & videos being shot, the above mentioned 5 charactersistics were found in most traditional  Muslim brides.

Now imagine, if these 5 sunnahs  enter the daily lives of a Muslim woman , won't her beauty also far exceed even that of the woman considered most beautiful in town? Because it is easy to find a beauty aided by glossy make-up, foundation, wigs & fake eye-lashes , but the noor(glow) on a pious woman's face is gifted by Allah which not even the best beautician in the world has been able to re-create.

If a woman guards her modesty & covers herself according to the Shariah, then even when she turns 80 & becomes old & wrinkled, she remains the bride of the first night to her husband. He continues to see her with the same affection and reverence. SubhanAllah !

Doesn't every woman secretly desire to be considered beautiful & have her husband's constant love & affection as long as she lives? Then she should adopt the hijab completely & try to bring  these 5 sunnahs into her life, InshaAllah as long as she is alive, she will continue to win her husband's affection and love as she did as his lovely bride on their first night together.
