By Shameeyaa neo waMolefe

if only I could sing
then my stutter
would never be a reminder of my past laughter,

but the melody
that will raise my fist!
and brighten confusion
in every victims creed.
if only my rhythm
could bring back sheltered trust
to shattered words,
I could sing songs of cacophony
from Marechera’s trip over your tongue cockroach voice,
I would bridge hope
to peasant -pagans, that
the sun will forever shine
to true ® evolution.
if only I could
then my vocal chords would
deeply dance to the tunes of
pro -new -world -disorder execution.
I would happily, listen to the angry words of Themba Sono
tremor-ring Thabo Mbeki’s economical confirmation
that the 21st century shall rise trice
to middle class pockets.
if only
I could reverse this verse to be a perfect poetic prose,
I would eulogize
the beautiful poverty odour
of nepotism and tribalism
lingering in Hiroshima
and Holocaust blooded bomb chimes.
I could relearn
unlearn to remember
the stale tales of imperialism engraved in my words.
I could finally excavate
maybe expose
these recluse, maverick censored ideologies
veiling in my stuttering
stopping my cockroach voice from singing.
