Besides the entrance to the Jamia Masjid (Friday Mosque) or on the roadside, there are old men who sit and sell an ugly and strange palm-sized stick, upon enquiry; its used for brushing the teeth, known as Siwak. Taken aback. You wonder what type of people they are, that too in this advanced modern age these oldies are hanging on to this strange tooth-twig instead of company manufactured brand toothbrush. You fire criticising thoughts at these old men, very old cultured people, and uncivilised men selling their wares along with their grandchildren, who are mini-"oldies". Some unpolished people of this modern age buy it for brushing their teeth with this ugly looking tooth-twig, may be that is their habit or what you say fashion not to speak of its (dental) value! Some buy it out of pity for those "old men" to help them make some money for spending a day on the sweltering roadside. Some buy to give their brushing with it a try. Siwak or Miswak as it is known finds a place in the pocket of those who know the "value" of this ugly but mute looking tooth-twig. It doesnt need any paste as required by the modern toothbrush, (a money saving device!)For the so-called modern man, his prestige in brushing his teeth is in acquiring toothbrush, paste, tongue-cleaner, mouth freshener lotion, etc., which are expensive. But to that same man his prestige diminishes just for using the natural toothbrush that would cost him just a percent or two of what he spends on the luxury items. Surprisingly this very twig does all the functions of the toothbrush, paste, tongue-cleaner, and mouth freshener lotion. Its seems unbelievable! How does such a poor little twig do such an excellent job? One may ask.Its simple. Try it.
