I was still young and tender like a rosebud opening in the spring. I was afraid from the blow of a sweet breeze. How about standing in the face of winds and storms? That was when I opened my eyes to life and to him. When the enchanting tune of his words brought delight to my ears. These words were very much a part of a dream or a fantasy-- words that were related with treasures, castles and flying high in the sky. Words that make you dream of eternity-- “Gilgamesh,” his fantasy for the plant of life and an eternal love and an eternal strength as well as the pleasures that come along with them.
That person guided me to the first treasure and guided me to the way of getting it. He made me grow attached to the idea, and there was no turning back now. I had to go on the path with all of its difficulties. I had to travel until the end. After that, I had to work hard on digging it out. In the process, I broke a thousand black hoes and another thousand white ones. I almost came to regret the day I had met or heard of him as well as the day I had listened to him.
At last, he showed up again. I wished for another treasure, which he presented in front of me. Then, came the second blow. After that, I stopped counting the number of blows. I stopped counting the number of treasures I had been promised at the end of the road. Every time I was full of hope for another treasure or maybe another blow, I don’t really know, for I didn’t count the number of hoes I had used up on the way. However, I took an oath upon myself to take revenge on him-- on the one whom had given me the first blow. On the one whom I had opened my eyes to as soon as I began my life’s journey.
One time, I found him in front of me. He had given his back to me. It seemed as if he was smiling. “At last I’ve reached you.” I heard the sound of clapping. In the beginning, I thought that it was those slaps once again. I was surprised. The claps had that sound-- the same voice I had grown used to. It seemed to me that they were the same hands that I grew up with and from which I had received one slap after another.
“No, I think it’s the treasure that I’ve always dreamed of. I always wished for a sign that would let me know that I had reached to the treasure-- to my partner and successor as well as to the worship of the Lord. And no one would clap for me the way they are clapping now.”
He turned around to face me. I saw in him all of those who had slapped me. He was clapping for me. “Oh, Worshipper (Servant of Allah)! The treasure was all that you suffered, experienced and traveled. You were young and tender. Now, you are ready to face the whole creation. You will teach the people how to find their treasure and how to travel their paths. It wasn’t of any importance whether you found the treasure or not. But it was important that you tried. And now that you’ve become a treasure and a strengthened one, after all that you’ve been through, you can go to where I ask.”
He pointed to a beautiful, young rose that was still blooming with winds and storms facing it. He said, “Go and guide the young rose to the treasure that you’ve found.”
