“ Mother, mother…there’s too many of you crying,
Brother, brother, brother…there’s far too many of you dying”…

Waking up each morning,
Living day by day,
Loving parents pray for my,
Safety as I play,
The world I know is simple,
Complexities quite few,
I wake, I play, I eat, I sleep,
Content these things I do,
The politics surrounding the,
Current state of affairs,
Have me quite confounded,
I couldn’t give a care,
5 years old I should have,
A future that’s quite bright,
Full of if’s and maybe’s,
As endless as the night,
But ….
All my current knowledge,
Is filled with hurt and pain,
Carefree childhood days spent,
Dodging metal rain,
Fighting that once faded,
Is raging now full blown,
Providing gruesome memories,
Like those I’ve never known,
Innocence is compromised,
I’ll never be the same,
Because what greets me daily,
Is death….a final game,
Neighborhoods once beautiful,
Are now just ragged piles,
Of twisted metal, glass and stone,
And never ceasing cries,
Please…
Understand my story,
Just try and see my side,
See if the life I’m living now,
Is one that you’d decide,
To raise your children up in,
Providing for their care,
No security at all,
Just helplessness despair,
What I had before all this,
Was never opulent,
But all the horrors I now face,
I never did confront,
This is my existence,
I live it everyday,
My loving parents pray for,
My safety as I play.
