By Sister Zainab Pate

I look at the book of Islamic Law and what do I see? Does this book have a purpose in my life? The answer to both questions is oedience to Allah. The Islamic Law is a gift sent down from Allah. It is a book of guidance to show Allahs way of purity, modesty, and honesty.
To ensure that we understand not only His spiritual cleansing of one soul, but His physical cleansing of our body, home, clothing and life. It teaches that after once embracing Islam, it shows you how to live it on a daily basis. Not only is your food to be Halal, but your utensils, clothing, and home. When I became a Muslim many years ago I went through my home washing my dishes, utensils, and clothing. Purifying them in the manner of to which they would become Halal.

My style of clothing changed and I began to cover my body according to Quran and Islamic Law. There was something special, when it came to covering my head. I have heard many Muslim sisters complain about having to cover their head, especially when they go to their home countries which are under Islamic Law. For myself, not coming from Islamic country, when I discovered it was what Allah expected of me I gladly covered because my wish is to please Allah.

I think that if more sisters were to look at covering as pleasing Allah instead of a chore, it may have a whole new meaning to them. When I began to cover my head it was like a bond of obedience to Allah. It always seems to keep my thoughts on Him. It has helped me to witness to many others. It keeps my eyes looking straight, not looking left or right, or behind. Not with just my physical eyes, but the eyes to my heart. So if anyone has any doubts about Islamic Law and its guidance for today, let me assure you to me the Quran is a Light unto my heart and the Law , a path unto my feet.
