Asalamu Alaikum Wa RahmutAllahi Wa Baraketahu...

SubhanAllah I sat down watching the telly and all of a sudden I heard the athan go off in the background, my ears switched and homed in on the sound as the mans beautiful voice rung out through the house... And that was that - my ears switched off to the athan and strained to listen to the t.v. Sound familiar? Im sure Im not the only one, it was Asr prayer and I was filling my head up with a load of rubbish instead of standing up to do my Wudu and praying;

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "There are angels who take turns in visiting you by night and by day, and they all assemble at the dawn (Fajr) and the afternoon (`Asr) prayers. Those who have spent the night with you, ascend to the heaven and their Rubb, Who knows better about them, asks: `In what condition did you leave My slaves? They reply: `We left them while they were performing Salat and we went to them while they were performing Salat.
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

The angels for the night come at the time of `Asr when the angels for the morning are present. This is how the angels of the two shifts assemble at this time. The angels of the shift of `Asr leave their duty in the morning, and the angels of the morning shift resume their duty when the pious persons are engaged in Fajr prayer. This is how the two groups assemble again at that time. Thus, when the angels come or go, the people who are punctual in their prayer are engaged in Fajr and `Asr. Almighty Allah knows everything but even then He asks the angels about his pious slaves so that the piousness of the believers and their merit and distinction become evident to them - but still we sit and gawk and the T.V. or maybe its a comic book? How about this months cosmopolitan.
After looking at the hadiths and making sure that I would try as hard as possible to get up when I hear the athan go... Alhamdulillah I seem to be able to deal with it. Brothers and sisters I promise you this is not a "do your prayers article ((although you should!!!)) So, after doing my prayers Shaitan found another little nitch to pick at. You see we forget that Shaitan has not been around as long as weve been alive Shaitan has been around since Adam (AS) - NO before Adam (AS) hes got thousands and thousands and thousands of years of experiance behind him... Its the only job hes ever had hes an EXPERT!!
So back to my story... Shaitan found another little nitch to pick at - I was sitting down on my bed reading Al Jumuah magazine and I was so absorbed in the article it was wonderful MashaAllah and there it was the athan... Dohr prayer was calling out for me to complete. So I thought to myself Ill just finish up this article and then Ill pray InshaAllah, well, let me tell you... one article became three articles and even then I was saying to myself "Just one more, just one more, then Ill pray." An hour had gone by - Dohr was still able to be prayed but I wanted to read one more article. I bet a few of you reading this are saying well... whats wrong with that? Surely you are doing something right. Wrong.

Shaitan is so cunning that he wont just come up to you and say to you "Uh excuse me can you indulge in a sin please... Ive asked nicely!" No - not at all... He masks it, he masks it so well that he can make you think youre doing something righteous but Shaitan is a lot more patient than we are. With millions of years under his belt he can afford to be patient, he knows the ropes while we "muslim teenz" are still fairly new at this game. He was skilled from day one - he went to Adam (AS)

[20.120] "But Satan whispered evil to him: O Adam! shall I lead thee to the tree of Eternity and to a kingdom that never decays?"

and in Surah Al- Araf [7.20] "

Then began Satan to whisper suggestions to them, bringing openly before their minds all their shame that was hidden from them (before): he said: "Your Lord only forbade you this tree, lest ye should become angels or such beings as live for ever."

He didnt say go comit a sin, he knows exactly where our weak spot is. If Shaitan cant get you to be a kufr, hell go for Bidah of he cant get Bidah hell try and get a major sin from you, if he cant get a major sin hell be happy with a minor sin, if he cant get a minor sin, then he will try to make you waste your time in things that are allowed as long as it will take you from what is good... if he cant get that from you hell try and get you to do good deeds - BUT hell try to get you to do good deeds that are lesser in reward that others. Shaitan is our enemy and yet we act as if hes our friend. I sat reading Al-Jumuah magazine and made myself believe that I was doing something good instead of going to pray. The story of Barseesah came to mind and I jumped up to pray... If you dont know it... Leave me a message or comment and Ill happily give you the story or maybe somebody would like to post it?

On a final note, brothers and sisters PLEASE if you have a little niggle, a twitch, a small hint that Shaitan maybe trying to get something out of you please stop right there. JUST STOP, think about it... "Do I really want to be questioned by Allah Subhanu Wa Taalah about this that Im doing?" How will I justify it? How can I stand there and say "Oh Allah - I loved you so much and I still love you so much - its just I really needed to finish playing on my playstation," or "Oh Allah - I promise I loved you - its just Eastenders/91210/Spooks/Lost was just sooooo interesting I just had to finish it Im sorry I did my Maghrib late..."

PLEASE we all need practise and do as much as we can to gain strength in saying NO! to Shaitan.
