O Little One, I love you
For a simple reason that’s true
My hair is quite grey now
And my head is heavy and low
What about my love-lit eyes?
The wrinkles beneath are all wise

I want to walk; I want to talk lest you mock
An ageing breed that once was new like you
I see you have wings, such gentle wings, to fly
I thought you knew that I could, too…

O Cherubic Delight, I love you
For a simple reason that’s woo
The smile on your beautiful face
And the tears of golden grace
What about your delicate hands?
They can lay a rainbow on the land

Oh, now you laugh; how you do?
For your old man’s drained of rhymes
And I haven’t too much time…
Life is full of twinkles and little wrinkles
Yet, you sit quietly on my throne
The slaves of mercy kiss your soul
