I was decreed
–To be born,
For a short sojourn,
In a city,
Fully of variety
–Temporarily freed...

Freed so as to see
–If I’m worth,
From the earth,
As a being,
Who is believing
–To be declared free.

Free not from nothing
–But from defect,
So to that effect,
As a relief,
I’m given a belief
–That earns me blessing.

The blessing hard to earn
–It’s better to prove,
And to improve,
Our mettle,
Than to settle –
For a flimsy crown,
The crown to adorn
–Worth not a bit,
Not even a nit,
Nor the wing of mite,
That has a nasty bite
–It’s better to mourn.

Mourn not the dead
–Under the six feet earth,
But those in hell’s hearth,
Strive not for fire,
And be a live pyre
–But for Paradise instead...
