Spain, Rome and Italy,
Had caught my fancy- really quite early,
I wished to visit France,
I dreamt it’d entrance,
A lot better than any séance;

England I wished to study and discover my muse,
All those poets laying dead - a fitting ruse?
I’d visit the many palaces there,
Heard of those maaahvellous guards, I geared to outstare... I’d grace the sidewalks of South America,
Befriend the penguins and bears in Antarctica,
I’d walk the streets of Mexico, wander through Brazil,
I’d learn about piranhas and certainly take ill,

I’ll swing thro’ Africa, quite like Jane,
I planned to get away from the oh-so-mundane:
I’d ‘howdy do’ with fearsome chieftains,
I’d camp out for a self-spelt sentence,

I’d pay a visit to Uncle Sam,
And wonder at his children, quite spoilt from the pram,
I’d rub shoulders with the strangely suspicious,
With the obnoxious and presumptuous,
With the audacious and oh-so-gracious;

For this fantastic adventure,
I needed the Bestest travel agent,
He’d take care of my arrival and departure,
He’d have to be quite surely heaven sent!

On the way and over the while,
I gathered pieces of facts,
They heaped into an unappealing pile,
And thoroughly unsightly stacks;

Oh sure England had ‘Frost at Midnight’
But really it was ‘much ado about nothing’
I saw France in an unbecoming light,
And to see Uncle Sam I wouldn’t spend a Farthing,
Brazil had lost its charm,
Hunger, wars, oppression just swarmed,
Swamped my vision, robbed my zeal,
I quite depressingly forgot what to feel;

But then- yes, a very important ‘but then’,
I realized something that caught my yen,
Oh I found my Travel agent,
And He was oh-so-fabulous,
I could travel without a plane, a train or a bus!

I just needed to open this book,
It said ‘Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Aalameen’,
Praise be to the Lord of the Worlds,
And Bingo! I’d found my answer-
He volunteered to be my Agent and my Guide,
A first class pleasure enhancer by my side!

He had me globetrotting and sailing the universe,
Without any whopping bill emptying my purse,
Infact He showed me such treasures,
Such riches... all- incomparable by any measures;

I opened this book; the dimensions changed,
It was really quite perfectly arranged,
My world expanded to fit in the universe,
I traveled the unknown, chapter by verse:

My wonder grew as my awe surpassed-
I quite frankly felt like a fool outclassed,
Here were such thrills, perils and delights,
All in this wonderful book of splendid insights!

Al Quran, Al Furqan, a journey perfectly mapped,
A lifetime of experience waiting to be tapped,
An eternity’s worth of promises behesting to be clasped.
