I find that I compromise
To avoid aversion in your eyes
But doing so I play a part
That stamps self-loathing on my heart...
I find that I've stepped down a rung
On the ladder to where the stars are hung
And rather than turning to give you a hand
To raise you to where I'd rather stand
I swallow my Deen and humor the devil
I step down to your level.
