faith is masochism on a Sunday night
when all the church lights have gone to bed
a midnight mass of disbelievers
it is Islam
on the hour on the Day
naked and bare
and exposed for the world to see
all equal.
It is the closing of eyes and hearing of cries
filling the sky like a cauldronfull of black smoke
rising up and engulfing an atmosphere
that has sucked for too long the night’s darkness
from the air
with each passing cycle
to bring an uncomforting light
and knowing
Knowing
that you are out there somewhere
being unfaithful to me
Despite my faith in you.
that is faith
in the eye of the heart of darkness
that is faith
wide eyed and staring
and waiting
though the world ends
though the apocalypse comes and goes
sitting and waiting
and knows.
