By Mohammed Hamza
When we are able to carry out our routine chores daily,
How often do we remind ourselves of the obligation
To offer our prayers punctually?
When we become overjoyed with our children studying Harry Potter,
How often do we teach them the verses of the Quran,
When it is much richer?
When we talk about other people negatively in front of our children,
How often do we realise the disobedience we encourage and
Their innocence we may have broken?
When we become proud of western thinkers of the past,
How often do we equate them with our Islamic personalities,
Whose illuminating examples are vast?
When we gaze at the opposite sex without restraints,
How often do we think of shaitan’s arrow
Entering our hearts without constraints?
When we praise the abilities of super stars and idols,
How often do we think of the blaze that awaits them,
As painful hurdles?
When we approach services in times of crisis,
How often do we think of reaching out to Allah,
When our desperation rises?
When we are harsh to our parents for their rigid ways,
How often do we remind ourselves of their rights,
Instead of appearing astray?
When we are engaged in the struggles of life,
How often do we seek the example
Of Prophet Muhammed (sallallahu alai hi wassallam),
When injustice against him was rife?
When we criticise others for their diversions from the deen,
How often do we think of our own daily departures,
As forgetful human beings?
When we rejoice in Prophet Yusuf’s (alai hi wassallam) strengths,
How often do we use his example of patience,
When we are involved in disputes of great lengths?
When we hear of our brothers and sisters’ oppressed in global affairs,
How often do we feel for them,
In sharing their despairs?
When we feel we are in devotion,
How often do we check our self-pride
Which prevents us from reaching the higher station?
