Our Neighborhoods
Book Project
Focus
The main focus of this book is to bring out the positive aspects of the individual neighborhoods which we live in today.
You, the author, may want to include the following in your work:
- Your neighborhood or the place where you grew up in/spent many years in, including its history and cultural background.
- Emphasis should be placed on the development of characters. Each neighborhood consists of individuals, and it is through passionate portrayal of people that you will be able to make the piece and the neighborhood come alive.
- An idea of the general lifestyle of this neighborhood i.e. create an insight for readers to get a feel of your neighborhood.
- An image of different aspects of your neighborhood bad as well as good, by using events or situations.
- The potential that your neighborhood has to develop.
- Dialogue or quotes from interviews.
- Finally, a description of your future hopes and visions for you neighborhood.
This book needs to leave the readers feeling positive and inspired to help in their own neighborhoods as well as be supportive in other neighborhoods. The work presented in this book does not need to be ‘Islamic’ in words, but it can be in thought. Meaning that its purpose is to emphasize and revitalize the value of life (which is an Islamic thought) but without all the Islamic words so that non-Muslims would feel comfortable (and inspired) reading it as well.
Intended Audience
We hope to appeal to a variety of ethnic groups in an intellectual, yet exciting way. The ideas need to be strong and thought provoking. The presentation of these ideas needs to be able to sustain the interest of various kinds of people while allowing them to get a clear idea of which ‘neighborhood’ you’re coming from.
Goal
Upon completion of this project, we wish to have a unique and exceptionally well-produced compilation of articles, stories, pictures, and drawings.
Method of Compilation
The work of approximately 15-20 authors will be chosen to be included in this book. Feel free to submit pictures/drawings to include with your work.

Length of work: 2 500 words to 4 000 words (maximum)

We encourage you all to bring this book to life by giving it your own special and distinct touch. You may approach the theme of “our ‘neighborhoods’” in any way you feel best -- keeping in mind the above-mentioned points. Allow the readers to see where you’re coming from – they are certainly curious to know. Remember that your writing is but the petal that will make the flower, if all the petals are beautiful so, too, will be the flower - insha’Allah.
