The little kid walked across
To the canteen door
Along the way he fell
Down upon the floor

His books went sprawling all around
His knees hurt from the fall
He looked around to find
A helpful friend to call “Get up you little kid!”
A harsh voice screamed at him,
He looked up and saw
A boy looking mean and grim.

He scrambled up and saw
The big, angry boy wasn’t alone
He had two friends beside him
Fat, strong with thick bones.

“Give us your money!” They shouted
Holding out their hands
“Or else we’ll beat you up
And fill your mouth with sand!”

The little boy was scared,
He knew the big boys were bad,
But why should he give it to them
It was his- given to him by dad.

Quietly he said,
“You know this is wrong,
You shouldn’t take things of others
That don’t –to you- belong.”

“So what?” The big boy said,
“I can have it all my way,
I’m bigger and stronger than you
And can beat you up any day!”

“I only fear Allah”
The little boy said,
“I do what is good
And fight what is bad!”

“Are you not afraid of me?”
The big boy cried.
“Aren’t you afraid of Allah?”
The little boy replied.

“He sees all that you do,
And how you treat others.
Muslims should be helpful,
Act kindly towards brothers!”

The big boy looked down,
Thought for a moment, and then did say,
“Thanks for guiding me, my friend,”
Then slowly turned and walked away.
