I was rifling through old papers the other day; school certificates, notes passed in class, newspaper clippings and that sort of memorabilia when my eyes fell on a crumpled, tea stained photograph. A young(er) me stood smiling at the chief guest as I collected my prize during the speech day at my old school. I smiled with fond memories, scanning the picture for familiar teachers and other friends, taking in every detail of me, my uniform, my scarf... my scarf!
OK, maybe all memories aren’t as fond. Like this one. I clearly remember the scene of the prize distribution. I was standing in line with my friends, chattering excitedly about which latest bestseller we might receive, when my teacher approached.
“Child!” she squeaked loudly. “What’s that THING on your head?”
I looked at her innocently. “I don’t know, what?” I pulled my scarf even lower on my forehead.
There are three part of the story from Surah Al-Kahfi, of Prophet Musa and Khidir a.s. In my study it is actually the similar exact account as having to do with the gift of Muslims of the past, namely Knowledge. they plied on the water: I but wished to render it unserviceable, for there was
after them a certain king who seized on every boat by force...
Alcohol is regarded today as a necessity of life in high society and fashion bazaars. It has become indispensable during get-togethers, parties, and meetings. It is no longer considered the cause of misery, disease, and ruin among the civilized people of the world.
However, the fact remains that one-third of all recognized cases of bankruptcy in the civilized countries of the world, is because of physical and mental inefficiency caused by the intake of alcohol...
For many of us we have very few well written narratives to inspire us. West Indian Readers had but not Islamic Literature. This is a fine endeavour by a Guyanese female Muslim to rewrite the Story of Abraham in order to inspire the young while quoting the Quran and analyzing the events historically. For me however, the Abrahamic Tradition is thematic and central to solving global issues of religious strife and nationalistic disputes. Have we ever thought that Abraham is well placed in all world religions and Islam celebrates his personality the most?
